Fact text

  • Kenyon College, one of Ohio's most prestigious liberal arts schools, was originally founded right here in Worthington before moving to its current home.
  • A commercial building erected in 1808 at 679 to 681 High Street is still in use today, making it the oldest commercial building in continuous use in all of Ohio.
  • When early settlers auctioned off city lots in 1803, prices ranged wildly from $53 all the way down to literally $0.25, and stragglers who bid nothing just got the leftovers.
  • The very first settler to arrive in Worthington 'won' the honor simply by traveling via slow ox-cart, somehow beating everyone else to the site.
  • The only pontifical college outside of Italy relocated just north of Worthington in 1931, not exactly what you'd expect to find in suburban Ohio.
