Fact text

  • The valley is named after a 19th-century rancher named John Lucas, who had absolutely nothing to do with Star Wars creator George Lucas.
  • George Lucas bought land right next door in 1977 and built Skywalker Ranch there, so the Force is strong in the neighborhood.
  • Marinwood's original streets were all named with the suffix "-stone": Cobblestone, Rhinestone, Flagstone, Millstone, someone had a very committed theme going.
  • A later development kept the theme energy alive by naming every street after a berry: Blackberry, Huckleberry, Mulberry, Loganberry, and ten more fruity friends.
