Fact text

  • Antioch got its name at a Fourth of July picnic in 1851, when a minister convinced the whole town to rename it on the spot.
  • The town was originally called both 'Marsh's Landing' and 'Smith's Landing' before finally settling on a biblical Syrian city as its inspiration.
  • A 19th-century home for the ranch manager was literally shipped around Cape Horn, the entire building sailed from the East Coast to reach what is now Antioch.
